How Connection Makes Your Everest Goal Possible

Leading a team to summit any mountain requires those individuals to be strongly connected. In fact, their lives and the success of the team depend upon it. Scott DeRue, the Edward J. Frey Dean of Business, understands this firsthand. An accomplished adventurer and mountaineer, Scott has successfully climbed the highest mountain peaks on six of the seven continents and is scheduled to complete the seventh, Puncak Jaya, in March. Scott has reached the summits of Everest, Denali, Aconcagua, Vinson, and Elbrus and has also led University of Michigan students and alumni to the highest point in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro. In this session, Professor Lindy Greer facilitates a conversation with Scott to explore the research and practice of leading effective teams and how the essence of great leadership and teamwork uniquely comes alive under the conditions of mountain expedition.
