Ari Weinzweig is CEO and co-founding partner of Zingerman’s in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Opened in 1982 as a little corner Delicatessen, Zingerman’s has now grown into a Community of Businesses with 8 businesses, 600 employees and annual sales of over $45 million. Driven by their vision for the year 2020, the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses will grow into 12-18 businesses, each unique and all still based in Ann Arbor.
In 2003, Inc. Magazine called Zingerman’s the “Coolest Small Company in America,” and they’ve been featured in the Harvard Business Review and on MSNBC for their radically different business practices. In his book, Small Giants, Bo Burlingham cited Zingerman’s as a model for organizations that define success more creatively than just “getting as big as we can as fast as we can.”
Ari was recognized in the 2006 Who’s Who of Food & Beverage in America by the James Beard Foundation and is the author of a number of articles and books, including the Zingerman’s Guide to Good Leading series – A Lapsed Anarchists Approach to Building a Great Business (Part 1) and Being a Better Leader (Part 2). Part 3 will be released later this year.
